Houston

What an amazing, record-setting year we had in 2007!!! We are so excited to announce the results of YTAC-Houston's Inaugural Golf Classic event, which was sponsored by Academy Sports and Outdoors and took place at Wildcat Golf Club on Monday, October 1, 2007. The golf tournament certainly was a day to remember. With the voice of Milo Hamilton and the presence of many local celebrities, the tournament was a huge success. Many of those who attended have promised they will be back next year.

On November 12, 2007, YTAC proudly presented the Uterine Cancer Research Program at M. D. Anderson Cancer Center with a check for $133,000. This donation is larger than the sum of YTAC's total donations since inception in 2001!! What an honor it is to be able to give this money to such a worthy organization!

Uterine (endometrial) cancer is the most common gynecologic malignancy and the fourth most common cancer in women. The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2008, 39,080 women (an average of 107 a day) will be diagnosed with uterine cancer in the United States and 7,200 women (an average of 20 women each day) will die from this disease. Despite being the fourth most common cancer in women, there is very little public awareness about uterine cancer; and research funding has traditionally lagged behind that for other cancers. Uterine cancer is highly curable if caught early. In women with advanced disease, treatment options are limited. Hopefully, our donation will bring us closer to finding more of those treatment options.

And to add to that donation, on Thursday, January 24, 2008, Young Texans Against Cancer hosted its sixth annual donation ceremony at the home of Ryan Gordon. The ceremony was designed to unveil the year's charitable-organization recipient to YTAC members and donors; moreover, we expressed our heartfelt appreciation and thanks to all of our donors and members for their participation and generosity. Funds for this recipient come from all events we host throughout the year—excluding the golf tournament.

After carefully reviewing numerous grants requests, the Charity Selection Committee presented the information about the respective charities and, then, voted on the recipient of this year's donation. YTAC is proud to present CanCare as this year's recipient of a $10,000 donation from YTAC.

YTAC is pleased to support CanCare in their mission of offering "free, one-on-one, long-term emotional support to cancer patients and their families." YTAC's funds will be used to continue program services of one-on-one emotional support, outreach visits to hospitals, support of volunteer training and continuing education, information, referrals and resources, as well as community education.

On behalf of YTAC and myself, I wish to thank all of the Charity Selection Committee members who donated their resources to assist in the betterment of the lives of Texas families affected by cancer. I also wish to thank all of YTAC's members and donors for their contributions in making our annual donation possible. Finally, we are extremely grateful to founding member Ryan Gordon for opening his home to us for this wonderful event.

Sincerely,
Tom Broughton
