Grants & Programs
YTAC Houston is coming off another record setting year with great momentum for 2010-2011. In January, we gave The CHRISTUS Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research a check for $155,000. This is the largest gift to date for YTAC. This donation put YTAC Houston's cumulative donations above the $500,000 mark! On a statewide level, YTAC also has chapters in Austin, San Antonio and Dallas.
Young Texans Against Cancer is very proud to continue to be run as volunteer-only-organization which allows us to keep expenses at a minimum. The dedication and passion of our leaders and members has shined during a period where our economy is having a major impact on non-profit organizations: YTAC has been able to adapt to the economy and find new sources of fundraising and involvement in the community. In 2009-2010, YTAC participated in the Chevron Houston Marathon's Run for a Reason program. This program raised over $40,000. The annual golf tournament continued to be a success and the first YTAC Olympics was held in January - with over 200 participants.
YTAC also continues to volunteer in the local cancer community. We took a group of Sunshine Kids to an Astros game, held a cookout at Ronald McDonald House and made gift bags to be delivered on Mother's Day to mothers of cancer patients at Texas Children's Hospital.
In December of 2009, after carefully reviewing over 60 grant applications, the Charity Selection Committee voted on the 2011 beneficiaries. YTAC is proud to name three beneficiaries who we will be working very hard in 2010 to raise money for:
Lymphoma research at The University of Texas
M. D. Anderson Cancer Center
Aidaan.org
Camp Quality
The Houston Chapter of YTAC is entering a very exciting time as new leadership has been elected to the Board of Directors which will take YTAC. The membership year has been changed to January through December and the membership drive will be combined with the Olympics event, which proved to be very fun in January. The Board is working very hard improving current events as well as creating new volunteer and social events to keep YTAC as a leader in Houston's many young professional organizations.
Sincerely,
Matt Gordon
Outgoing President
